Course description: This class is to introduce you to the basic art of sewing. I will cover aspects of fabric types, machines and techniques. You may occasionally be asked to complete tasks outside of class time.

Seam Ripper Paper and Pencil for note taking
Course Specifics
Summary/outline of the course: This course will teach you the basics of sewing. Classes will consist of two hours. When completed, you will be confident in knowing how make attractive finished personal and household items from fabric. You will know how to create buttons and buttonholes, sew in zippers, and be able to apply tips and techniques to finish your projects. There is no testing and no certificates will be issued upon completion of this course. There is limited seating so each class will be limited to no more than 6 people.
Course goals: The goals of this course are to help you obtain the confidence in your ability to make items that you will be proud to show to others.
Course requirements/assignments: All tuitions and fees must be paid in advance unless other arrangements are made. Moneys are refundable up until the second class. After the second class it is non-refundable. If you own a portable sewing machine and want to learn on your machine, feel free to bring it with you. Machines will be available for use.
Sewing notions will be needed and can be purchased at any craft store or may be purchased separately through this class as needed.
Instruction for significant assignments: If your course has a project, a paper or other significant assignments, please complete these for the next class as they are important for you to learn or know.
Grading policy: . This is not a graded course but your attendance is vital for the desired outcome

Course Policies & Safety Issues
Policies, concerns or prohibitions, if any Please be respectful of the instructor and others time. If you have a question, ask it. There are no dumb questions, however do not take up precious class time with unnecessary chatter. Cell phones will be allowed for recording images, Please do not use class time for texting unless it is an emergency, Smoking is not allowed anywhere on the property. Occasionally if needed children may attend, however they must be well behaved. We do not provide childcare.
Late work and make-up work policy. It is important for you to attend all classes, however, things happen that are sometimes out of our control. If you miss a class, call ahead if possible. If you are late, your class will end at the regular time, depending on schedules, you may not be able to stay late. All situations will be considered on a case by case basis. If approved, a class may be made up in a private seating or if there is seating room in another class, it may be possible to sit in on this class.
Adding and Dropping Classes: If you choose to drop the class, Tuition is only refundable during the first two weeks, thereafter it is non-refundable.
Address safety issues if relevant: at this time, classes are held on private property,. You must be able to ascend two flights of stairs.
Students with Disabilities: Upon identifying themselves to the instructor and the university, students with disabilities will receive reasonable accommodation for learning and evaluation If you are special needs please advise of this immediately so that the proper accommodations can be made.
If you are absent from class, it is your responsibility to check on announcements made while you were away. Announcements, or schedule changes will be made via text unless you have another preference.
You may use video or camera to capture images or procedures as desired.
Your class time is limited and we are not here to solve political issues, please refrain from discussing political activities, and please do not use profane language. If you are asked three times to disengage in these activities, you will be asked to leave the class and money paid will not be refunded.

It is the policy of this establishment to provide to best of our ability to teach you how to do this project so that you will be proud of the work you have done.

When using machines, injuries occasionally happen, You agree that the property owners will not be held responsible for injuries that may be sustained on the property.
Honor Code: Please respect property that does not belong to you. Do not open items belonging to another student. If something breaks while you are using it, report it immediately, failure to do so may eliminate you from the program.
Cheating and Plagiarism: Please do your own work. You may assist someone but do not do the work for them. You will not be asked to do any work that may be copyrighted.
Computers: Computers may be used as necessary for some classes. Classes teaching sewing programs (Floriani Digitizing) may be available on occasion.
Disruptive Classroom Behavior: “The classroom is a special environment in which students and faculty come together to promote learning and growth. It is essential to this learning environment that respect for the rights of others seeking to learn, respect for the professionalism of the instructor, and the general goals of academic freedom are maintained. Patterns may be used repeatedly for these classes, at no time is anyone allowed to sell the patterns used as they are a copyright property. As the pattern has to be purchased by the facility, it may be used repeatedly, but it may not be sold. Your finished project is free for you to do with as you wish.
